We left Wyoming driving through the Powder River Pass on US 16, & headed into South Dakota, making our first stop at the Wind Cave where we took the Garden of Eden Tour. Both of us love to tour caves, so it is hard to pass one up.

After Wind Cave it was a short drive down US 385 to The Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, SD. This is an open dig (under a roof!) where you can see what the fossils look like still in the ground.

After leaving the Mammoth Site, we drove south out of South Dakota on SD 71 into Nebraska, and camped for the night at Fort Robinson State Park near Crawford, NE. For information on the history of the fort, check the Nebraska State Historical Society site.
