Sterling Nature Center is located on the shore of Lake Ontario about 5 miles West of Oswego in Cayuga County. The center has miles of trails, includes a long stretch of shoreline on the lake, and a heron rookery that at last count (Spring, 2008) included over 60 nesting pairs. A great place to visit any time of year, although my favorites are the Spring nesting season (the herons fledge or leave the nest in mid July) and the wonderful colors available in the Fall. For those that enjoy the Winter snow, they have snowshoe & cross country skiing available. More information about the center is available at their website.
