Today we went to check out the cherry blossoms. Our timing in 2005 was perfect - this year for the most part it is too late. Although there are a few trees around the Tidal Basin that still look OK, most are past prime. We walked around the basin, then over to see the World War II Memorial, a couple of statues & some more photos of the Washington Monument, and, of course, some Valerie pictures:
After that, we took Valerie for a ride on the merry-go-round. Although she really wanted the dragon rather than a horse, there is only one dragon & it seems everyone wants to ride on it. Unless you are first in line, you get a horse. Still, as you can see from the pictures, the horse is OK! From there we went to the Smithsonian Castle for a snack & drinks. We also checked out the garden behind the building - very nice. Then, back to try for the dragon. Alas, there were two young ladies ahead of Valerie & she didn't beat them up so she ended up on a Zebra. We will have to try for the dragon next time!
After that, a stop at the Sculpture Garden for a brief rest & a chance for Valerie to meet a new friend & dig into his Fruit Loops! Although I'm not sure I like everything there, the stainless steel tree is neat as well as the eraser.
Then, home for lunch, and a trip to Best Buy. It seems the WiFi card built into my Mac Laptop is failing. It has been a bit intermittent at home, but at the App's house in Oceanside it didn't work at all, and here in DC it can't find the open site in the Coffee House just below their apartment. Since my iPhone can find it, I think something is wrong! So, I now have a NetGear G USB Adapter. I was hoping for an "N" for the additional speed, but according to Best Buy there are no drivers for any of the "N" adapters they sell. Since I can't get on line to check, I settled for the NetGear for now. In any case, after going to the Coffee House to download the Mac driver from NetGear, it is working.
Brian is home, so it is time for dinner!
