Today was mostly driving - about 550 miles. I much prefer to do less than 200 per day, but I wanted to get to Ricketts Glen State Park in PA today and find a motel in the area. I had already checked with a tourist information booth - there are no motels anywhere near Ricketts Glen.
I did stop to take a couple of morning photos of the Grist Mill since I had to drive right past it:
I checked with the office at Babcock - there were people inside even at 8:00AM, however they didn't actually open until the 15th so no souvenirs! The drive up US 219 through West Virginia is interesting. Up & down many hills & mountains. Maybe not as large as those in the West, but lots of 8% - 12% grades up & down. The RAV4 is great fun to zip around the curves.
The rest of the drive was not all that interesting; much of it on interstates which eat up the miles, but are pretty boring. I did get to Ricketts Glen State Park, an my GPS told me the Ricketts Glen Inn was just a mile or so past the park entrance so I gave it a try. Unfortunately, it is not open on Mondays. It looked more like a bar than an inn, so I probably couldn't have stayed there even if it was open. I went into the park to get a map & since it was around 6:00 I decided to check out a couple of the upper waterfalls. Although the park is mostly empty, there was at least one family in one of the cabins. I wish I had thought to bring some camping gear - I could have stayed in the park. I didn't think the camping areas would be open. I also met a couple of people climbing & photographing one of the falls, so, I included them in one of the photos.

After that I punched in "Find the Nearest Motel" into the GPS & Matilda (Carol named her) told me to drive all the way back to I80 & stop at the Super 8 Motel. Actually, there is a choice between the Super 8 & Motel 6, but, at least according to the cartoon at the desk, Super 8 has a better breakfast, so I'm in Room 116 for the night. Their WiFi seems to be working so I'll upload today's adventures & hit the sack.
Tomorrow I plan to start at the bottom & work my way up the falls. That way the return trip will be downhill. I do miss having Don & Anne along - For our 2001 trip Anne dropped Don & I off at the top & picked us up at the bottom - downhill all the way!
