Day 1 & Index

Sunday, August 17th
Tuesday, August 19th

As promised, the first picture is one of the Shop & Stop. Actually, today is the first day we didn't need to stop & shop! Instead, we made it Karin & Valerie tour day. Of course, the best tours start at the dump. Well, today's had to - we needed to get rid of the clam waste before it perfumed the house. While at the dump we picked up more books. After the dump it was off to the Hospital Thrift Shop for more books & some toys for Valerie. Our next stop was the windmill. This is the last grinding mill left on the island. It has been rebuilt a number of times, and is primarily a tourist attraction. Although they put the sails on the arms, it didn't turn while we were there.

After the mill we headed out to Sconset for ice cream. This time Carol found 2 parking places just for us, although we only needed one of them. After eating, I wandered off to check the Chanticleer. Last year the horse was gone. It is back in a new position.

After that we drove down Baxter Road to show Karin & Valerie the new position of the lighthouse & get a "I'm a Keeper" shirt for Valerie. Karin also picked one up & I bought a hat. I also took a picture of the sign at the town pump & even though there is a photo in last week's pictures, I threw in another photo of the pump itself (At least there is a different car in the background!).

After Sconset, we decided to drive home via Polpis Road, took a detour to the right to Wauwinet, and drove the length of Squam Road, a new road (at least new for us). On the way back to Polpis road we also stopped at the end of Pocomo Road to let Valerie dip her feet in a calmer part of the ocean than Miacomet. Here is a panorama of the view from the beach parking lot. Sorry the harbor waters seem a bit wobbly - the stitching software isn't perfect & I shot it hand held.

After that it was home for an afternoon break. I don't think there will be much cooking tonight - we are having Pizza! We called in the order for pizza to Sophie T's - made me a bit nervous when I has to explain how to make a garlic pizza, but they did a fine job (although I could have done with some real rather than barbequed wings...

Till tomorrow!
