A Trip Across the USA

April 24, 2004 - Packed
A couple of years ago I designed sound for a production of John Steinbeck's The
Grapes of Wrath. For those not familiar with the book, play, or for that
matter, the movie, the Joad family load up a truck with everything they own &
head
for
California. I know our van is newer, more reliable, and our trip far less necessary,
but the image came to me as I was packing.

By the way, as long as I mentioned John Steinbeck, his Travels with Charlie along with William Least Heat-Moon's Blue Highways are two of my favorite travel narratives. Both describe what I find as the ideal way to travel, ie the trip is at least as important as the destination.
Another by the way - Do you know how hard it is to find block ice this time of year in Oswego? Tried most of the usual places - "We will have it for Harborfest, but not now." Eventually, I called the company that supplies most of the bagged ice cubes in the area & they deliver block ice to the KTM Mini Mart on County Rt 1 (the Middle Road) in Scriba. Just trying to save you some time if you are looking for block ice...
Anyhow, we managed to fit everything and will be leaving in the morning headed for Letchworth State Park. I'm not sure when the next update will come - it depends on finding a network connection. Until then!
