After today's walk at the Sanford Farm, we decided to go to a Farmer's Market & Craft Sale at the New School on Nobadeer Farm Road. Pretty small & pricey but it's Nantucket. After that it was off to Sconset to show Karin & Brian the house being moved. We stopped out at the Sankaty Lighthouse. It is now behind a chain link fence & appears to have strapping to hold it together. There were a couple of cars & trucks parked inside with "Lighthouse Keepers" bumper stickers - I believe they are a group that is trying to preserve the Sankaty Light. One of the cars was interesting - a Ruddick. I don't know if it is a manufactured vehicle or custom built, but it is the lightest street legal automobile I've seen! You could easily pick up either end!
By the way, if you come to the Island without a vehicle, there are a couple of tours available. I couldn't tell you which is best since I usually do tours by Jon & Carol, but Gail's Tours has been here since we started coming to the Island in the '70s.

On the way back from the Lighthouse, we stopped at the Sconset Market for an Ice Cream Cone. Probably the most expensive I have ever purchased $4.75 for a single scoop sugar cone, but at least it's Tom & Jerry's Ice Cream. I think I sold a bunch of them - as I walked out of the market many of the people that just finished the 7 1/2 mile bike ride from town thought ice cream would be a great idea. I also took some time to walk around Sconset taking photographs of the many flowers & gardens as well as some of the wonderfully preserved homes .
After Sconset, we made a stop at Tom Never's so Luann could add to her sand collection. As expected, even though there are many more houses, there is even less beach than in 2005, the last time we visited. We ended up going a bit further than the Tom Never's beach, so her sand, according to David, came from Madakasham Beach, the 3rd valley.
After that we dropped the kids off to do some walking & shopping in town & I came home to decide what I needed to make bay scallops into dinner tonight.
Well, we've eaten and I'll have to say the scallops were only a partial success. They tasted great, but ended up being a soup rather than a stew. If you are going to use the recipe for Scallops in Wine from the old version of the Joy of Cooking and your scallops are Nantucket Bay Scallops (the best scallops in the world!), cut down on the amount of liquid you add back to the pot, or increase the flour & cream.
Till later!
