We drove over to Brian & Karin's for breakfast, then to the DC Hilton to pick up Carol's sister Jean. Although Karin went with us, I'm glad I had the GPS - we gave it the address of the Hotel & it led us to the front door. Only problem was Jean was waiting at another door. Thank goodness for cell phones - we managed to find each other before the hotel staff chased us out of the entryway.
Since we now have a wheelchair for Carol, we decided this would be a good time to see some of the memorials that were too far a walk for her on our previous trips. We started at the FDR Memorial. It is made up of many waterfalls:
The monument is on the Western edge of the Tidal Basin - I couldn't resist a couple of pictures across the Basin. I also caught someone posing so that his finger ended up on top of the monument...
After the FDR Memorial it was of the visit the Lincoln, the Korean War & Viet Nam Memorials:
After the memorials, we went back to Brian & Karin's for a visit & to pick up Brian for diner. On the way we stopped off at the DC (well, actually Maryland) Lincare office. We were going through oxygen a bit faster than I thought we would (Carol's oxygen level was increased this January) so I wasn't sure we would have enough for the entire weekend. The advantage of using Lincare for the service is the number of outlets they have around the country. Although they don't have one in Nantucket (or on the Cape for that matter) they do in DC. All I had to do is give them Carol's information & they gave me a couple of tanks. Actually, we ended up not needing them, but it was good insurance against any problems on the drive back.
We decided to visit one of their favorite Chinese restaurants - City Lights of China in Bethesda. Very good food, and way too much for us. After that Carol & I headed back to the Motel & Karin & Brian took Jean back to her Hotel. The plan is to pick up Jean for breakfast tomorrow & get he back to the conference in time for a couple of sessions she wants to go to before flying home that evening.
