2011 Trip across the US
2012 Trip across the US
Other Trips
Well, I know I said yesterday I was heading to Bullhead City, AZ, so how did I end up in Barstow, CA? I could say I wanted to drive a bit of Historic Route 66, but I've done parts of it on previous trips, including the full length (when it was a full length road) in 1950 as a 5 year old with my parents on my first cross country trip.
Actually, the reason is I decided to definitely do Death Valley first, and I needed an oil change, etc for the RAV4, and there is a Toyota dealer in Barstow. I also discovered another screw in the same front tire as last time & had them repair it. I will need new tires soon - after rotating them the rear tires only have 3/32" of tread left - the limit is 2/32". I would still like to put it off until I reach Oregon to save the sales tax.
After the oil change, I drove back to the campground (Site 8) and did laundry. I had an early dinner of broasted chicken from Von's Grocery, and digging out the laundry bag managed to spill half a cup of milk all over the front of the trailer, including my comfortable West Marine chair. Lots of washing, scrubbing; it is outside drying. Sure hope it doesn't develop the "spoiled milk" aroma, because there is no way I'm going to toss it. The most comfortable chair I've sat in other than my Lazy-Boy recliner at home! The laundry here is inexpensive - $1.00 to wash & $.75 to dry, and although I didn't quite have my usual 2 washer loads, if I stay too long at Death Valley, I'll run out of stuff.
By the way, it is interesting to have full hook ups. It has been over a month that I've been dry camping without electricity, water of sewer connections. Hope I remember how to plug things in. I'm also having problems getting used to not turning off every light as soon as I move to a different part of the trailer. It is fun not needing to conserve! It will also be nice to take a real shower. The last was a quick 3 minute one at Anza-Borrego State Park.
The only photo for the day is the campsite:
I had a complaint that the pages posted here are difficult to read. Since I only have my Mac & iPad, and they read fine on them, if you are reading them on something else & have problems, please let me know & I can either try a different group of colors or a larger font. I like the black background because it shows off the photos better than most other colors, but if things are unreadable, I'll have to think about a change.
Until tomorrow -
