August 12, 2001 ( 211 miles) Home!

We packed things up & headed for home. Emptied the RV gray & black water tanks, filled the gas tank, and turned the Fiesta in to the Great Outdoors. Overall we drove 1517 miles, bought 195 gallons of gas (that works out to about 7.78 miles per gallon) and paid a total of $2093.61 for the rental. Was it worth it? Probably not, but it did let us compare an RV to tenting - there are advantages to both, but the RV sure cuts down on set up & take down time, and provides all the comforts of home. It wouldn't take too many rentals before you paid for an RV, so I'm not sure it makes sense to rent too often, and not owning the RV means you can't do any of the modifications that would make it fit your lifestyle (adding solar, etc.) I guess it did confirm that it is a great way to travel & I better start saving to buy one of my own!
