July 29th

Woke up early this morning & was out jogging by 6:45. Much nicer than it has been over the last couple of days. The temperature is down by a couple of degrees, but even better there is far less humidity. According to the Davis Weather Station it is down to 67% for a dew point of 58°.

More later.

It's later. We went to the dump & Hospital Thrift Shop so that Don & Anne could find some used books, then wandered around & stopped for ice cream at Stars Ice Cream on Straight Wharf. While eating our ice cream I had to take some photos of the stilt houses. Very picturesque - My mother painted a couple of them, including one of my favorite of all her paintings, although that was a watercolor of a fisherman's shack on pilings in Maine. Unfortunately, the painting got destroyed by mildew in Croton.

I also shot a couple of pictures of some boats with interesting names. Don't know if you can read them so I labeled them - I do wonder what "Plan A" was as well as what happened to the "First Chance"!

After that it is back to the house to pick blueberries for a pie. We need to get there before some friends of David's come by to pick 6 gallons.

Well, they seem to have already been by - the bushes are very lean. But, we persevered! By climbing into the bushes, pulling over the sections that are over 8' tall, etc. we managed to pick 6 cups - enough for a pie. I'm making it as I type (well, actually I am waiting the required 10 minutes for the berries to soak up the tapioca & flour so that the pie won't be too runny). That's done & the pie is in the oven. Hope you are not getting too bored with making the pie. We have the advantage that we will be able to eat it!

The Pie is Done

No awards for food photography - it is cooling on a grate & I didn't bother to fancy up the display. I did do my traditional decorating with the left over crust!

The plan is to have pizza for dinner - we have finally finished off the spaghetti, although there are still meatballs left that David is going to use for lunch. Of course, deciding what kind of pizza is a bit of a problem. We all went with garlic, but Anne can't eat scallops so we ordered two - one plain garlic and one ACK (a garlic pizza with bacon, tomato chunks & Nantucket Bay Scallops. We picked it up at Pudly's Pub at the Fairgrounds. Both were very good. We also had blueberry pie for desert.
