Sunday, September 30, 2018 - Lost Dutchman State Park, Apache Junction, AZ, Day 2, 0 Miles, 4,716.9 Miles for the Trip

Around 10.30 we headed to the Goldfield Ghost Town, a touristy combined real & fake ghost town that is mostly shops and restaurants. Still some good building photographs. We walked around taking photos, then headed to see Tortilla Flat, a town of 6 that started out as a water stop along the Yavapai Trail (now the Apache Trail & AZ 88). A very windy with one lane bridges, but paved road between the campground and Tortilla Flat; beyond that it is mostly unpaved for the next 15 miles to Roosevelt Lake.

Interesting wallpaper in the Saloon/Grill - end to end dollar bills.

We are now back at the trailer ducking the 100°F+ heat. There is a sing at the park entrance warning of flash floods starting tomorrow. Since there is a 60% chance of rain in Phoenix, it is probably a useful warning. You can see many washes that are currently dry, but in a heavy rain?

I was sitting over at Don & Anne's & she spotted a horny toad. She took a picture or two, but of course Don & I had to chase it all over the campsite, knocking off frames like there is no tomorrow! Almost felt sorry for the poor thing.

A Horny Toad or Horned Lizard

It is amazing how well it blends in with the gravel next to the site.

Dinner was Anne's Chicken & Artichoke on noodles, and the part of the Kendall & Jackson Pinot Gris that she didn't use to make the chicken. I was going to head to the showers after dinner, but just as we finished it started to rain; first in weeks. The prediction is for 3" in Phoenix & 4" in the mountains. Hopefully, the mountains are not those at Show Low, where we are heading in the morning. In any case, the shower will wait until the next stop.

Until Tomorrow -
