August 1st

It was a quiet morning. Did the loop at the farm & ran into Anne heading for a walk to Eel Point. After Jan and her crew arrived they packed David off to Miacomet Beach for a swim. A couple of hours later I decided to go out & take some pictures of them at the beach - got there as David was pulling out. Oh well, no pictures of Dave at the beach!

Jan and all left for a bike riding adventure around 2:30. Jan, Wyatt & Lena are heading back to the mainland on the 5:30 boat - Shilo, Jason & Daniel will stay until Wednesday.

We are going to head out for our annual "Check the erosion at Tom Nevers" venture. On the way we stopped at Monomoy. I like the view of the harbor & town from there. After that it was off to Tom Nevers. The Tom Nevers Naval Facility was founded in 1955 as a listening post for submarines. It functioned from 1955 to 1976 when it was abandoned. If you believe the information at Wikipedia's Tom Never's Page, the bunker in the photo below was built as a bomb shelter for President John F. Kennedy, to be used in the event of a nuclear attack, if President Kennedy was in Hyannisport.

I also shot a couple of panoramas while at Tom Nevers. The first is the view standing on top of the bunker:

After that is was the inevitable stop at the Stop & Shop (sure does have the right name!) to pick up some hamburger & rolls for dinner.

The hamburgers were great, although Anne makes the fattest hamburgers I have ever seen. Took awhile to cook them!
