Day 26, Thursday, November 13, 2025 - Lake Somerville State Park, Birch Creek Unit, Day 2 -0 Miles, 1,997.4 Miles for the Trip
Warm enough most of the night, although the heat did come on around 5:00AM. Up to 62°F for my morning walk. No eagles, but the turkey vultures moved into the trees behind my site for the night making lots of noise until around 11:00, and leaving at dawn.
I have a shower report from last night which I headed for after dinner. I remember the shower from the last time I was here because it is an unusual one. A 2" diameter shower head that makes a very fine spray. This is the only place I've seen this particular shower head. That's good since it isn't very good. With the hot water turned up as high as possible the spray is OK on your head, but it is so fine that somewhere around shoulder height it becomes cool, and by the time it hits your waist it is cold. Small shower stall & dressing area. No shelves in either, 3 hooks in the drying area. There is a shower curtain at the opening to the drying area, but none between it & the shower. The shower head aims at the opening between the shower & the drying area, and the floor of the drying area gets wet. There is a bench outside the drying area that covers both showers and is open to the rest of the bathroom. If you are not shy, it works better than the drying area. Overall, a C- at best.
I checked the internet speeds - AT&T shows 16.28Mbps down, and 4.4Mbps up. Verizon shows 101.62Mbps down & .21Mbps up. What ever AT&T is using for a look up is very slow. It takes close to a minute for it to find some of my fiberglass forums, but then is fast. Same with my webpage. Once you have made a connection, it finds the site fast enough the next time.
After breakfast I attempted to request some prescription refills for when I'll be in Deming, NM. You no longer get to talk to a nurse, just leave a message with the info on voice mail. One office informed me that they no longer do refills over the phone - you must use their portal. The problem is their portal can't find Walgreens in Deming, NM, so I couldn't use it. After 20 minutes on hold got to talk to someone in the office & they said they would take care of it. Over the afternoon I received some notices from Walgreens that they had received the prescription requests from 2 of the 4 doctor's offices.
I finished Donald Westlake's Put a Lid On It, and Libby informed me that my hold on Ngaio Marsh's Alleyn #33, Money on the Morgue was ready so that is my current read. It will be the last of the series, written in 2018. The first in the series was written in 1934 so it has covered a long part of the last century. I al;so received notice that another book I had on hold (Connie Willis' To Say Nothing of the Dog) was ready. Somehow they always seem to come in at the same time. Since the NYPL does 21 day loans, I should be able to read both before they expire.
While cool this morning, it is warming up, 75°F at 1:00. So far the MAXX fan is keeping the trailer livable but it it gets much warmer inside I'll have to run the AC to keep my medicine under 80F. I moved outside to read. While reading an armadillo came by for a visit. Kind of neat; you don't see too many of them in upstate NY, but they go along with the turkey vultures for appeal. I also found some of the purple berries that I only seem to find here in Texas.

When it got too dark to sit outside & read (well, with the Kindle it is never too dark since the screen lights up, but it was time to eat) I moved into the trailer. I shut off the AC, opened some windows and started the MAXX fan. 74°F outside & 75°F inside.
Dinner was a grilled Chicken Bubba Burger and a salad.
Until Next Time -
