Nantucket 2011

I went out & took a bunch of photos, some at Sconset. Luann in Oswego wanted some photos of the Chanticleer Horse & a resupply of Nantucket beach sand. I decided to get her some of the "expensive" sand - they are doing a replenishment project at Sconset for many millions to try to keep the ocean from eating away enough of the beach that the multi million dollar homes don't fall in. I hope the hand full I took doesn't kill the project! Anyway, since I was there I also took some new photos of the lighthouse & a bunch of house / flower photos, including one of what has to be the prettiest post office in the country.

On the way back I saw a sign for Alter Rock Road. Alter Rock is the highest place on Nantucket, and since I have never been there, I turned onto the road. A sand road as good as any on Nantucket, but no actual indication of what rock at the top of the hill is Alter Rock. There are lots of them there, so I picked one (well, actually two since the lower one pictured below has an impressive plaque attached to it, but the other one was the highest one). In either case, it is 108' above sea level. According to Wikipedia, Folger Hill at 109' is higher, but I've been told since the '70's that Alter Rock is the highest point so I'm sticking to it.

I went with a black background because the panorama of Alter Rock forced the extra width of the page. Plus, I am thinking of changing all my pages to black backgrounds - it makes the photographs look better. What do you think?
